What Is SenseID?
SenseID is a family of battery-free, wireless sensor tags that work with standard UHF RFID readers. Unlike conventional RFID tags that only return a static ID, SenseID tags:
- Harvest RF energy from the reader
- Perform a real-time measurement using an onboard sensor
- Return both the ID and sensor data in the response to a standard inventory command
No write commands. No custom firmware. Just plug-and-sense.
How It Works
SenseID tags are powered entirely by the RF field emitted by a UHF RFID reader. Once energized, the tag:
- Boots up and powers its sensing circuitry
- Takes a measurement (e.g., temperature, strain, pressure)
- Encodes the sensor data into the EPC
- Responds to the inventory command with both ID and data
This means that a single inventory command is enough to retrieve both identification and sensing information—making integration with existing RFID systems seamless.
